THE Coca-Cola AFFAIR
La domination masculine
Montreal, Friday, November 20, 2009 - The 12th annual Montreal International Documentary Festival, the RIDM, officially ends tomorrow with the Canadian premiere of OCTOBER COUNTRY (United States) by Michael Palmieri and Donal Mosher. The film introduces us to an American family so down on their luck that their lives seem surreal. Against the backdrop of Halloween, using a dreamlike, delicate photography, the young filmmakers cast a tenderly comic look at characters straight from a storybook, haunted by their family ghosts.
The RIDM Festival officially closes on Saturday night, but 4 films are screening on Sunday, November 22 at the Grande Bibliothèque (475 de Maisonneuve Blvd. East).
At 1:30 p.m., audiences will see the Closing Night film, OCTOBER COUNTRY.
At 3:30 p.m., due to popular demand, the RIDM is delighted another screening of one of the biggest successes at this year's festival: THE COCA-COLA AFFAIR by Carmen Garcia and Germán Gutiérrez.
This fascinating documentary follows a handful of workers at a Coca-Cola bottling plant in Columbia who accuse Coca-Cola of hiring paramilitary groups to kidnap, torture and murder their union leaders. Carmen Garcia and Germán Gutiérrez deliver a meticulous document of this David and Goliath struggle.
At 5:00 p.m., it's the presentation of the AUDIENCE AWARD, to be announced on Saturday night.
Finally, at 7:30 p.m., the hard-hitting doc LA DOMINATION MASCULINE by Patric Jean will screen for one last time. It is a full-contact portrait of the patriarchy that still rules western societies smug in the belief they have achieved male-female equality, seen from inside the men's group phenomenon.
